Hope is a Discipline

In this video resource, migrant justice organisers Fatou, Pious, Son, Nanou and Rosanna reflect on what is means to practise radical hope, and why doing so is an essential part of their organising practice. Part of a series.

About this resource: Hope is a Discipline

“Organising is about dreaming bigger.”

Son, organiser with POMOC

This film resource is an opportunity to reflect upon our practice to see new possibilities as we transform the world around us.

Every day we are confronted by the relentless brutality and weight of multiple protracted crises. We’re up against racist borders designed to divide us, austerity policies deepening destitution and illness amidst a context of global fascism fuelled by capitalist forces profiting from violence and cruelty.

We can’t ignore our rage, but we won’t let it consume us.

We unite in our anger and grief, and together in our collective action we find hope.

Organising is a hopeful act because it’s about what’s possible- it’s an essential part of our toolbox.

As organisers we imagine the future to see what’s possible, and we look to the past to learn from those that came before us. Hope is essential to our survival.

Hope is a discipline, hope is a practice, hope is solidarity.

About this film series

“Hope is a Discipline” is part of a three part film series focused on the methods and tools of community organising. We share the wisdom of experienced migrant justice organisers who are taking action to end hostile immigration policies.

These films are designed as collective learning resources for people, groups, organisations and communities. We hope these resources help you and your group to reflect and discuss strategies together.

The series was filmed at a two-day gathering in London 2023. The gathering brought together over 100  migrant justice organisers to come together, connect, reflect, learn and build power.

Join us in sharing the voices of #SolidarityKnowsNoBorders – a growing community building transformative futures based on dignity, justice and solidarity.

Watch, learn, share. We organise together until we win!

Produced by Migrants Organise, filmed and edited by Winstan Whitter.
